This dry volume converter changes measurements of loose goods such as grain, fruit and produce between bushels, pecks, dry gallons, dry quarts, dry pints, liters, cubic meters and cubic feet. The dry volume converter uses this formula: 1 US dry pint = 0.5506104713575 L; 1 US bushel = 64 US dry pints. The US dry units all come from the Winchester bushel of exactly 2,150.42 cubic inches, about 35.239 liters. A peck is a quarter bushel, and a dry quart is 1/32 bushel.

How to use the dry volume converter
- In the dry volume converter, enter the amount, for example 3 for a 3-peck basket.
- Choose the starting unit and the unit you want, such as peck to liters.
- Read the result. Values are computed from exact cubic-inch definitions, so nothing is rounded until display.
Choose US or UK units carefully. The UK (imperial) bushel is 36.36872 liters, about 3.2 % larger than the US bushel.
What is dry volume?
Dry volume units measure loose solids such as grain, fruit and produce. US dry measures (dry pint, dry quart, peck, bushel) differ from US liquid measures of the same name, and the imperial bushel used in the UK is larger than the US bushel.
Conversion formula
The dry volume converter stores every unit as a multiple of the base unit, the cubic meter (m³). To convert:
value in target unit = value × (factor of source unit ÷ factor of target unit)
where each factor is the size of the unit in cubic meters.

Dry volume converter worked example
Convert 25 US bushels to liters with the dry volume converter:
- Factor of bu US = 0.03523907 m³
- Factor of L = 0.001 m³
- 25 × 0.03523907 ÷ 0.001 = 880.9768 L

Reverse factors for each dry volume unit
The dry volume converter reference table gives each unit in cubic meters. To go the other way, divide by that factor; the list below does the division for you.
- Liter (L), Metric: 1 L = 0.001 m³, so 1 m³ = 1,000 L.
- US Dry Pint (pt dry US), US Dry: 1 pt dry US = 0.0005506105 m³, so 1 m³ = 1,816.166 pt dry US.
- US Dry Quart (qt dry US), US Dry: 1 qt dry US = 0.001101221 m³, so 1 m³ = 908.083 qt dry US.
- US Dry Gallon (gal dry US), US Dry: 1 gal dry US = 0.004404884 m³, so 1 m³ = 227.0207 gal dry US.
- US Peck (pk US), US Dry: 1 pk US = 0.008809768 m³, so 1 m³ = 113.5104 pk US.
- US Bushel (bu US), US Dry: 1 bu US = 0.03523907 m³, so 1 m³ = 28.37759 bu US.
- Imperial Bushel (bu UK), Imperial Dry: 1 bu UK = 0.03636872 m³, so 1 m³ = 27.49616 bu UK.
- Imperial Peck (pk UK), Imperial Dry: 1 pk UK = 0.00909218 m³, so 1 m³ = 109.9846 pk UK.
- Strike (UK) (strike), Imperial Dry: 1 strike = 0.07273744 m³, so 1 m³ = 13.74808 strike.
- Coomb (UK) (coomb), Imperial Dry: 1 coomb = 0.1454749 m³, so 1 m³ = 6.874039 coomb.
- US Dry Barrel (bbl dry US), US Dry: 1 bbl dry US = 0.1156282 m³, so 1 m³ = 8.648409 bbl dry US.
- Cubic Foot (ft³), US/Imperial: 1 ft³ = 0.02831685 m³, so 1 m³ = 35.31467 ft³.
- Cubic Inch (in³), US/Imperial: 1 in³ = 1.63871 × 10−5 m³, so 1 m³ = 61,023.61 in³.
Dry quart vs liquid quart
US dry and liquid measures share names but not sizes. A dry quart is 67.200625 in³ while a liquid quart is 57.75 in³, so the dry quart vs liquid quart difference is about 16 %. The same gap applies to pints and gallons:
| Unit | US dry (L) | US liquid (L) | Dry is larger by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pint | 0.5506 | 0.4732 | 16.4 % |
| Quart | 1.1012 | 0.9464 | 16.4 % |
| Gallon | 4.4049 | 3.7854 | 16.4 % |
Recipes that list cups or fluid quarts use liquid measure even for flour or sugar. Dry measure is used mainly for produce sold by volume, such as a quart of berries.
Bushel to peck and smaller units
The US dry system is binary: 1 bushel = 4 pecks = 8 dry gallons = 32 dry quarts = 64 dry pints. A bushel to peck conversion is therefore always multiply by 4. A bushel is a volume, so its weight depends on the crop; grain trades use standard test weights per bushel set by USDA, which differ by commodity. For any other dry measurement conversion, use the tool above; for liquid or cubic units, use the volume converter.

Questions about this calculator
What is a dry volume measurement?
Dry measure is a set of volume units for loose solids such as grain and produce. In the US it is based on the Winchester bushel of 2,150.42 cubic inches.
How many pecks are in a bushel?
There are 4 pecks in a bushel. One US peck is 537.605 cubic inches, about 8.81 liters.
Is a dry quart bigger than a liquid quart?
Yes. A US dry quart is about 1.1012 L and a US liquid quart is about 0.9464 L, so the dry quart is roughly 16 % larger.
How many liters are in a US bushel?
A US bushel is about 35.239 liters (2,150.42 cubic inches). A UK bushel is exactly 36.36872 liters.
How do I convert a dry pint to liters?
Multiply by 0.5506105. One US dry pint is 33.6003125 cubic inches, about 0.5506 L.
Should I use dry or liquid cups for flour?
US recipe cups are liquid measures (about 236.6 mL); dry measuring cups are the same volume, just designed to be leveled off. US dry quarts and pints are a separate, larger system.
