Light Converters

Light converters handle photometric and imaging units used in lighting design, displays and printing. The illuminance converter switches between lux and foot-candles for light falling on a surface, the luminance converter handles cd/m² (nits) and foot-lamberts for screen and surface brightness, and the luminous intensity converter covers candela and millicandela.

For digital and print work, the image resolution converter converts PPI and DPI to dots per centimeter or millimeter. The frequency to wavelength converter applies λ = c ÷ f for radio waves, Wi-Fi bands and visible light.

Photometric units are easy to mix up. Lux measures light arriving at a surface, nits measure light leaving a surface, and candela measures intensity in one direction. Converting candela to lumens needs the beam angle, which a unit converter cannot assume, so check the product data sheet for those figures.

Light Converters has 5 free converters, including Frequency to Wavelength Converter, Illuminance Converter and Image Resolution Unit Converter. Pick one below.
