To convert meters to feet, divide by 0.3048: the foot is defined as exactly 0.3048 m, so 1 m ≈ 3.28084 ft. Formula: feet = m / 0.3048. For example, 10 m ≈ 32.808 ft, and 1.8 m ≈ 5.906 ft, or 5 ft 10.9 in.

How to use the meters to feet converter
- Enter the length in meters, for example 2.5.
- Read the meters to feet converter result: 2.5 ÷ 0.3048 ≈ 8.202 ft.
- For feet and inches, multiply the decimal part by 12: 0.202 × 12 ≈ 2.4 in, so 8 ft 2.4 in.
What is the meters to feet formula?
feet = meters ÷ 0.3048 (≈ × 3.28084)
The reverse is meters = feet × 0.3048.
The inch, foot, yard and mile are defined exactly in meters (1 in = 2.54 cm, 1 ft = 0.3048 m, 1 yd = 0.9144 m, 1 mi = 1,609.344 m), so these factors are exact. The multiplier 3.28084 is rounded to six significant digits; the calculator uses the full-precision value.
What are meters and feet?
Length measures distance. The SI base unit is the meter. Since 1959 the international inch has been defined as exactly 2.54 cm, so the foot is exactly 0.3048 m and the mile exactly 1,609.344 m.
- Meter (m): the base unit used here for length.
- Foot (ft): 1 ft = 0.3048 m (US/Imperial unit).
Meters to feet worked examples
- A person 1.8 m tall: 1.8 ÷ 0.3048 = 5.90551 ft
- A 100 m sprint: 100 ÷ 0.3048 = 328.084 ft
- The height of Mount Everest (8,849 m): 8,849 ÷ 0.3048 = 29,032.2 ft

Values are rounded to four decimal places, or two for results of 100 or more.
Quick mental conversion
Multiply by 3.3 for a quick estimate (it overstates by about 0.6%): 10 m ≈ 33 ft (exact 32.81 ft).
Meters to feet and inches
| Meters | Feet and inches | Decimal feet |
|---|---|---|
| 1.50 | 4 ft 11.1 in | 4.92 |
| 1.60 | 5 ft 3.0 in | 5.25 |
| 1.70 | 5 ft 6.9 in | 5.58 |
| 1.75 | 5 ft 8.9 in | 5.74 |
| 1.80 | 5 ft 10.9 in | 5.91 |
| 1.90 | 6 ft 2.8 in | 6.23 |
| 2.00 | 6 ft 6.7 in | 6.56 |
Decimal feet are not feet and inches: 5.74 ft is 5 ft 8.9 in, not 5 ft 7.4 in.
US survey foot
Until 2022, some US mapping used the survey foot (1200/3937 m), which is about 2 parts per million longer than the international foot. NIST and NOAA retired it for new work at the end of 2022. For everyday conversions the difference is negligible.

Pools, tracks and altitude in feet
Sports and aviation figures converted with 1 ft = 0.3048 m:
| Distance | Meters | Feet |
|---|---|---|
| Short-course pool | 25 | 82.02 |
| Olympic pool | 50 | 164.04 |
| Standard running track lap (lane 1) | 400 | 1,312.34 |
| Typical airliner cruise altitude (about) | 10,668 | 35,000 |
| Mount Everest (2020 survey) | 8,849 | 29,032.15 |
The Everest figure is the 8,848.86 m height announced by China and Nepal in 2020, rounded.
Ceiling heights in feet
Room heights are a common use: 2.4 m ≈ 7.87 ft (7 ft 10.5 in), 2.7 m ≈ 8.86 ft (8 ft 10.3 in) and 3 m ≈ 9.84 ft (9 ft 10.1 in). Because 1 m is a little more than 3 ft 3 in, a quick check is to multiply by 3 and add 10%. For heights of people in centimeters, the cm to feet converter is quicker; for the reverse, use the feet to meters converter.
Diving and flying
Recreational diving limits are set in both units. The usual depth limit for a new open-water diver is 18 m, which is about 59 ft and rounded to 60 ft in US training. The advanced limit of 30 m is about 98 ft. Dive computers can show either unit, and a meters to feet check helps when a buddy’s computer is set differently.
Aviation uses feet worldwide for altitude, even in metric countries, so mountain heights in meters often need converting for pilots.
Ceiling heights, ladders and scaffolds also turn up in conversions. A 3 m ladder is about 9.8 ft.
