WOFF2 to TTF or OTF Converter

WOFF2 to TTF searches usually mean you have a compressed web font and need to inspect its underlying font file. This decoder opens a single-font .woff2 file, shows its names and glyph count, and downloads the reconstructed TTF or OTF according to the font’s existing outlines. It does not change CFF outlines into TrueType outlines or add glyphs removed from a subset. Your file is decoded in the browser, and you still need permission under the original font license for any intended use.

WOFF2 to TTF or OTF Converter

Decode a WOFF2 web font into its underlying desktop font format. The output extension follows its TrueType or CFF outlines, and font names are shown for review.

Maximum file size: 25 MB per file. You can also drag files here.

Supported scope and limitations

Single-font WOFF2 files only; font collections are rejected. Conversion cannot restore glyphs removed by subsetting and does not grant a desktop-use license. Verify the original font license. Variable-font shaping and application installation are not tested.

Examples contain invented demonstration data. Replace it before using any export.

Privacy: files are processed in your browser and are never uploaded.

How to use the WOFF2 to TTF or OTF decoder

Choose a .woff2 file or drag it into the file area. Selection begins decoding automatically. Try an example loads the bundled demonstration font so you can inspect the result before using your own source. There is no target-format switch: the WOFF2 to TTF converter preserves the underlying outline flavor rather than offering an unrelated outline conversion.

Review the name records, glyph count and variable-axis information shown in the results. Download converted.ttf for TrueType outlines or converted.otf for CFF outlines. If the output is OTF when you expected TTF, that can be the correct reconstruction of this WOFF2 source. Renaming the output extension does not change the internal outline format.

What WOFF2 compression changes and what it does not

WOFF2 is a compressed web-font format that packages font tables and transforms some table data for efficient delivery. Decoding reconstructs the supported font data rather than tracing shapes from a picture of the letters. This differs from raster-to-font creation and from a font editor converting between outline technologies.

The wrapper is only one part of the story. A website can distribute separate language or character subsets, each with fewer glyphs than the full retail font. Decoding one subset faithfully reconstructs the glyphs it contains; it cannot infer the missing alphabet from another subset or download the rest of a commercial family. Inspect the glyph count and names before deciding that a reconstructed file suits your intended text.

Worked example: why the output extension is automatic

Suppose a licensed font was originally built with TrueType outlines and then distributed as one WOFF2 file. This WOFF2 to TTF converter decodes that file and names the result converted.ttf. If another font’s underlying sfnt signature indicates CFF outlines, the result is converted.otf instead. Those different filenames reflect the source structure, not a preference you set in this interface.

The demonstration font provides a real decodable sample and a table of name fields. Use it to learn where family or style information appears. The displayed fields come from the font tables; they are not evidence of the retail name, copyright owner or permissions. A missing name field stays absent rather than being guessed from the filename.

Check the font license before desktop installation or sharing

A web embedding license can differ from a desktop, app or ebook license. Technical access to a font file does not automatically authorize installation, redistribution, logo work or embedding in another product. Obtain the original license and use the font supplier’s desktop download when that is available. Conversion is not a way to remove a licensing restriction.

Do not infer usage rights from the presence of a license-name string in the preview alone. Some files include partial or outdated metadata. Keep the source, the decoded output and the applicable license together. If the license is unclear, resolve that issue with the provider before using the font in published material.

Unsupported collections, variable fonts and damaged inputs

Only single-font WOFF2 inputs are accepted. WOFF2 font collections are rejected rather than splitting an unsupported collection into guessed font files. A file that was merely renamed from another font format will not become valid WOFF2. Signature and structural checks can reject truncated or malformed content before a useful font is produced.

Axis metadata may be displayed for variable fonts, but application installation and variable-font shaping have not been tested in every receiving program. The WOFF2 to TTF converter does not create static instances, edit weight ranges or certify OpenType shaping. After downloading, test the exact characters, styles and layout features you need in a licensed receiving application. The page’s file-size and decoder limits also apply.

Keep font decoding separate from publication preflight

If the font is part of an ebook you are permitted to edit, the EPUB validator checks its separate supported container and package structure. Changing ebook title or author information belongs in the EPUB metadata editor; it does not modify the font. For a finished PDF, the print-ready checker can estimate relevant page and font information. None of these steps proves that a font license permits the planned distribution. Retain a known-good original and verify the decoded font in the actual publishing workflow.

Common WOFF2 to TTF converter errors and how to fix them

When the WOFF2 to TTF converter cannot use a file, it stops with one clear message instead of producing a half-finished download. These are the problems people run into most often, with the fix for each:

  • The WOFF2 font is malformed or unsupported. The file does not start with the wOF2 signature, its declared length does not match, or decompression failed. A WOFF 1.0 file renamed to .woff2 fails here.
  • WOFF2 collections are not supported; choose a single font. The file holds a font collection. Use a single-font WOFF2.
  • Glyphs are missing after conversion Web fonts are often subset. Decoding cannot restore characters that were removed before the font was published.

Privacy: the WOFF2 to TTF converter runs in your browser

WOFF2 to TTF converter processing happens with JavaScript in a background worker on this page. Your file is not uploaded to a FileFix server, and the results you download are created in your browser’s memory. Unpublished manuscripts, designs and product data stay on your computer. When you finish on a shared computer, clear the selection or close the tab.

For the underlying format rules, see the W3C WOFF File Format 2.0. The WOFF2 to TTF converter follows the subset described on this page rather than every optional feature in those documents.

Questions about this tool

Why did my WOFF2 file become OTF instead of TTF?

The decoded extension follows the underlying outline format. CFF-based output is OTF; this decoder does not convert those outlines into TrueType.

Can decoding restore characters removed from a subset?

No. It reconstructs the data present in the WOFF2 file. Missing glyphs require an appropriately licensed fuller source font.

Does conversion permit me to install a web-licensed font?

No. Conversion does not grant rights. Check whether the original license permits desktop use or obtain the provider’s licensed desktop file.

Are WOFF2 font collections supported?

No. This implementation accepts a single font and rejects collections.

Can I choose a static weight from a variable font?

No. The tool can display available axis metadata, but it does not generate static instances or edit variable-font axes.

Review the supported formats and limitations before using an output file. File processing happens in your browser.
